Has anyone ever asked you to consider if your breathing is helping, or hurting you? Many do not know that how we breath has a direct impact on the amount of stress that we will have, our ability to focus, our mood, anxiety levels, general health and quality of sleep. Most people at baseline are breathing rapidly in the upper area of their lungs, which initiates the body’s stress response (fight or flight). In the same way, most people are very rarely entering into the lower lobes of the lungs, which allow the body to enter its most restful and reparative state.
Buteyko breathing is a training model that is designed to teach individuals through specific strategies how to raise tolerance to carbon dioxide and subsequently reduce rapid breathing and related negative symptoms that can follow being in the associated stressful state. Buteyko breathing trains the person to be able to enter into the restful state as their chosen baseline, overtime.
Andrew Matusiak, LCSW is a certified Buteyko Breathing Instructor. Group classes train individuals to be able to increase their ability to have the body and mind to be less stressed and develop a breathing pattern that allows for a healthier baseline. Clients will learn methods that can also be practiced at home and have lasting carry-over benefits when completed with regularity.
Individual sessions are also offered for those who would like to have increased support and a specialized training plan to optimize training benefits.
